Grilled Parmesan Herbed Potatoes
It’s grilling season. A time of year that I used to love because that meant TSM was going to be cooking most nights. Now, somehow, since graduating from culinary school I seem to be cooking 99.5% of the time and TSM has turned the grilling over to me. I think it’s time to save up and buy him a smoker. He can be in charge of smoking and then maybe I can take part of each summer off while he experiments with smoking various meats. Sounds like a plan to me! Just for the summer I’m going to be taking a break from 30-Minute Monday Recipes. Don’t worry, I’ll still have plenty of…

Creamed Corn with Bacon and Poblano Pepper
I’m pretty excited about today’s recipe. I really like corn. I especially like sweet corn. When we moved to South Carolina I noticed that they had all sorts of farm stands along the sides of the roads. I was in fresh produce heaven. That is, until I found out that the one I was frequenting got their produce from WalMart and I was buying GMO sweet corn. Yep, you guessed it. I was no longer in heaven. It’s getting harder and harder to find organic sweet corn. This makes me sad because I can do wonders with an ear of corn. When I was out and about running errands last week, I found…

Salsa Fresca
One of my first posts as Real Food Girl: Unmodified was a Garden Salsa recipe. It’s a favorite in our home and it is as tasty as it is pretty. But there is a small problem with that salsa post. The original (recipe) has photos that were taken with my iPhone and when there was no daylight in the kitchen. The photos just didn’t capture the vibrant colors in the salsa at all. New photos and an update to the recipe were long over due. Because spring is here, and fresh veggies are on my mind, I’m going to change the recipe up a bit from the Garden Salsa recipe that is already on the…

Maple Dijon Sweet Potato Mash
I’ve been eating a lot of sweet potatoes lately in an effort to switch things up a little. I’m trying to come up with different ways to serve them because The Stud Muffin is a meat and regular potatoes kind of man. When I put sweet potatoes in front of him, he’s expecting a turkey and all the fixings to accompany it. Don’t get me wrong, I love regular potatoes, but they don’t love me. I feel a bit sluggish after eating them. The only time that I don’t is when I’ve made potatoes Au Gratin, which includes lots of cheese, cream, bacon, onions and butter. If I put enough protein in a…

Balsamic Roasted Tomatoes
Pure beauty. That’s what these tomatoes are. Pure-brilliant-beauty. I’m not a fan of raw tomatoes. Shocked? Yeah, most people are. It’s a textural thing. Goes right up there with mushrooms and peas. Put a dish in front of me with a few of these roasted, deep-red beauties and it’s another story all-together. I’ve been promising this recipe for close to a year now, and I’m truly sorry it has taken me so long to getting around to photographing these. My excuse is that we eat them after I make them and only after we’re rubbing our bellies and dabbing the corners of our mouths with our high-falutin’ paper napkins, would I realized I’d…

Real Food Girl Kitchen Tips: Have A Stock Pile
Today I’m going to teach you about my stock pile. No, I don’t mean the kind of stock pile some have in their basements that contains 87 deodorants, 33 cans of Aqua Net hairspray, 95 tubes of Crest, 14 bottles of Listerine, 112 Boxes of Uncle Ben’s Rice and 29 boxes of Froot-Loops cereal as a result of some recently developed mad coupon collecting skills. Although that kind of stockpile is very impressive, yet incredibly disturbing, that’s not what we’ll be chatting about today. What Is A Stock Pile? A stock pile is a lovely collection of each and every little carrot nub, parsley leaf, mushroom stem, carrot peel that you slice, every…

Apple-Poppy Seed Coleslaw
With autumn fast approaching most blogger’s are already knee-deep in comfort food recipes, apple and pumpkin desserts and casseroles. But not me. Nope. We made it from MN to SC and it’s hot down here. In fact, it’s still in the 90s, so summer is alive and well in my area and it’s not too late to squeeze out a few more recipes that one might associate with summer barbecue’s or cook-outs, like coleslaw. I planned to share my remaining summer-time recipes weeks ago, but the move proved to be more stressful than I ever could have imagined. When we arrived at our new (rental) home in SC, we discovered it wasn’t…

Real Food Roasted Vegetables
TSM (The Stud Muffin) doesn’t care much for veggies. In fact, it would be easier to get a 3 year old to eat their veggies than it is to get TSM to eat them. So I roast them. If they’re roasted he’ll eat them and the skies part and the angels sing and the birdies tweet and the sun shines and every little girl that wished for a pony gets one and my man gets some healthy veggies in his body. I’d roast veggies more often, but sometimes a girl just wants some steamed green beans, ya know? These veggies could NOT be easier to prepare. They are so easy, TSM made a…
