Almost Famous Real Food House Seasoning
Almost every restaurant that I’ve worked in has had a special house seasoning. They put it on virtually everything. I’ll spare you the colorful language that a kitchen full of prep-cooks and chefs use when referring to applying the seasoning to stuff, but suffice it to say, they love their house seasonings and they use them liberally and with enthusiasm. It got me to thinking- why don’t regular home cooks use house seasoning? How much tastier would things be if we had a little house seasoning to sprinkle on things? Tinker Bell has Pixie Dust, and Emeril has his famous “Kick it up a Notch” spices, so why not something special for…

Pan-Seared Pork Chops with a Shallot and Sherry Wine Pan Sauce
Pan seared pork chops with a shallot and sherry wine pan sauce may sound pretentious and fancy, but this dish is anything but. It’s just seriously delicious, down home, casual, quick cooking at its best. I had the grandkids all weekend, and by all weekend, I mean Friday through Sunday afternoon. TSM works all day long until late into the evening every Saturday for one of his part time jobs so I was on my own with Little Master C. and Little Miss B. I think we watched every DVD we own and I spent way too much time in the kitchen prepping food for our weekend meals. My plan was to rush…

The Best Hot Weather Chilled Soup Recipe
Surprise! I don’t normally post on Tuesdays, but this week I have The Best Hot Weather Chilled Soup Recipe and I’m sharing it over on my friend Kristin’s blog. Kristin blogs over at Live Simply. I love her blog. When my blog grows up it wants to be just like her blog! So pretty!! I’ve mentioned before that this year I’m expanding my warm weather recipe collection so that TSM and I can still enjoy nourishing foods on the days when it’s too hot to want to cook at all or we’re just not hungry for something heavy. This soup is light, fresh, rich, colorful and best of all, it’s SO good.…

30-Minute Mondays– Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken and Broccoli
Wow! It’s already the first full week of May. This year is more than a third of the way over. Can you believe it? We had a small cold front move in last week which meant I was in the mood for comfort food. One of my all-time favorite dishes is Fettuccine Alfredo. I love a tasty white sauce. And if it has cheese in it, even better. This is a simple recipe that is full of flavor, tender chicken and beautiful green broccoli. This is one of only two or three ways that The Stud Muffin (TSM) will even eat broccoli. It’s the Will Wheaton to his Sheldon Cooper. This dish…

Real Food Enchilada Sauce
I love to spoil you guys. I really do. Case in point; tomorrow for 30-Minute Monday I’m sharing my Beef and Bean Enchilada recipe. But in order to have it fit into the 30-minute time frame, you guys would have to use a powdered enchilada mix. Which, if you can find one that is truly nothing but organic spices, that’s not a bad thing, but making one from scratch always seems like a better idea to me. In order for you guys to be able to make the enchiladas, I wanted you to have my Real Food Enchilada Sauce recipe. YAY!! And, if I don’t get this posted before Monday, you’ll have to…

Frankenfoods, GMOs and The Dirty Dozen
Hi Everyone! Today I’ll be sharing my second guest post in our series on Real Food over at We Know Stuff. Hailing from Long Island, Denine and Daniele are the two fabulous sisters behind this fun, all things life, family and parenting blog. A few months ago we started chatting about how overwhelming all the information online was regarding Real Food. Through multiple online resources they read a myriad of stats, facts, figures and rules to show them the way and instead of empowering them to make the changes they desired to make, that information made them feel inferior, ashamed, and anxious. Understandably, that made me sad. It made me sad because I…

The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15
Hey there Food Hippies. When asked about the best place to start your Real Food journey, I almost always say with the Dirty Dozen list. This post is a duplicate of the Dirty Dozen Clean Fifteen page featured on my nav bar, but my theme won’t let you Pin images on a page, only in a post. So I’m going to sneak this into the mix so that if you happen upon it, you can pin the image below that I worked hard pretty on. In my opinion, this is quite possibly one of the most important lists that you could memorize when it comes to eliminating harmful toxins from your diet. An…

Real Food Girl Takes a Field Trip to We Know Stuff
Hi Everyone! Today I’ll be doing a guest post over at We Know Stuff. There are two fabulous sisters behind this fun blog and a couple months ago Denine, Daniele and I started chatting about how overwhelming all the information available online was regarding Real Food. All this information with resources to show them the way and instead of empowering them to make the changes they desired to make, that information made them feel inferior, ashamed, and anxious. Understandably, that made me sad. It made me sad because I personally know many Real Food food bloggers and if we’re making people feel ashamed because they aren’t at the same point on their path…
