Salsa Fresca
One of my first posts as Real Food Girl: Unmodified was a Garden Salsa recipe. It’s a favorite in our home and it is as tasty as it is pretty. But there is a small problem with that salsa post. The original (recipe) has photos that were taken with my iPhone and when there was no daylight in the kitchen. The photos just didn’t capture the vibrant colors in the salsa at all. New photos and an update to the recipe were long over due. Because spring is here, and fresh veggies are on my mind, I’m going to change the recipe up a bit from the Garden Salsa recipe that is already on the…

Savory Balsamic Onion-Bacon Jam
Bacon. Caramelized onions, bacon, fresh thyme, white wine, bacon, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, bacon, chicken stock, bacon. Let me guess, the only word you kept seeing was bacon. Yeah, I’m not surprised. This recipe was one of the first that I shared when I started my blog. You can see it HERE. The photos were taken with my trusty iPhone, and they’re pretty scary. I think that is why only a handful of my earliest and very faithful readers were brave enough to try this recipe. I’m thankful they did- because to this day, they can’t stop talking about this “jam”. I felt it was time to update this post and the photos.…

Balsamic-Strawberry Black Pepper Jam
I made jam!! This is the first time that I’ve ever made jam and I’m quite thrilled with how it turned out. Last year I went to one of those craft fair thingy’s where people sell jams, and homemade crafts, candles, jewelry, scarves, things for your pets, and your home. Anyway, I bought a small jar of Strawberry Balsamic jam with Black Pepper. For $12.00. That’s right, I paid $12.00 for an 8-ounce jar of this stuff. Man, was it good. I savored every $1.50-ounce of that jam. I did not however want to keep spending $12.00 for a small jar of homemade jam, no matter how good. I knew I was going…

Balsamic Roasted Tomatoes
Pure beauty. That’s what these tomatoes are. Pure-brilliant-beauty. I’m not a fan of raw tomatoes. Shocked? Yeah, most people are. It’s a textural thing. Goes right up there with mushrooms and peas. Put a dish in front of me with a few of these roasted, deep-red beauties and it’s another story all-together. I’ve been promising this recipe for close to a year now, and I’m truly sorry it has taken me so long to getting around to photographing these. My excuse is that we eat them after I make them and only after we’re rubbing our bellies and dabbing the corners of our mouths with our high-falutin’ paper napkins, would I realized I’d…

Sweet & Zesty BBQ Sauce
Let’s get, let’s get, let’s get, let’s get sauced! Let’s get, let’s get, let’s get, let’s get sauced! Does anyone else think Def Leppard may have chosen the wrong word for that song? I do. They could have had a #1 Summertime BBQ song had they chosen to sing about sauces vs. rocks. But I digress. I believe I’ve shared with you guys that finding condiments that taste good, have a decent mouth feel or texture, and don’t have a funky aftertaste has been somewhat of a struggle since starting our Real Food journey. I did find a great sauce from Outta The Park BBQ and I was able to make some really yummy BBQ Pulled…

Mayo The Force Be With You
Life without Mayo? Pish- utter blasphemy if you ask me. When made with organic, pastured eggs, and fresh, organic ingredients, mayo can and should be a regular guest in your kitchen. Homemade mayo will elevate even the most basic of sandwiches and will delight your senses and excite your mouth. In short, you need to make this. It’s much easier than you think, and learning some basic emulsion making techniques will take you far in the kitchen. It will also come in handy when I start working more French recipes into this blog. Before I get into everything mayonnaisey I have to thank 7-year old Noah A., for coming up with the fantastic…

Outta the Park BBQ Pulled Chicken… GMO-Free
A few months ago I was introduced to Beth, one of the owners of Outta the Park BBQ Sauce. I’d been commenting on my Facebook Page about how difficult it had been for TSM (The Stud Muffin) and I to find good tasting, organic condiments. We’d wasted close to a hundred dollars trying to find salad dressings we liked. I know, I know…I should make my own, but TSM and I don’t like the same types of dressings and I’ve never found a dressing that is comparable to that HFCS laden Western brand French dressing. But I digress. As I lamented about all the money we’d wasted trying to find decent tasting…

Onion Bacon ‘Jam’ (Organic/GMO-Free)
I have a serious foodie crush on bacon. It’s worse than the combined crushes I had on Shawn Cassidy, Scott Baio and Andy Gibb as a teen! We’re talking about an incurable, deep, intense crush for all things bacon. If bacon was a person, I’d be arrested for stalking it and creating a bacon photo collage on the wall of my seedy, low rent apartment complete with an alter, paying homage to all things bacon- just like those psycho ax murderers do on all those criminal cop shows. Yup. I’ve got it baad! I love bacon so much that any bacon related clip art, or comic or poem or interesting food invention using…
