Lemon Blueberry Loaf Cake
I had in my possession, for about 20 years the most amazing lemon bread recipe. It was from one of my mom’s old friends, Mrs. Bratnober. That woman could bake. Over the years, each time that I made this bread I fought all urges to eat the whole loaf myself without sharing any. However, I wasn’t raised by wolves, so I shared it with The Stud Muffin. My mother would be so proud. About a month ago I went to my recipe box to grab the card and make this so I could feature it during my week of “All things lemon“. I kid you not, I went through every single card in…

Easy Cheese and Sausage Egg Bake
It’s 84 degrees in our house. My den is in the finished room above the garage where I’m fairly certain the builders forgot to insulate, so it’s about 90 degrees in this room. My fingers are so warm they’re sticking to the keys on the keyboard and I can barely swipe my finger along the touchpad without it getting ‘stuck’. You gotta love first world problems. It’s too warm to work on the post I needed to finish up in the kitchen, so instead, I’m going to just update a post from my blogging archives. I originally shared this recipe under the title of Italian Sausage & Gruyère Baked Omelet. It’s a dish I make…

Better than Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls
Today is my 1 year Blogiversary and I’m quite excited. It’s a big deal to make it through the first year of blogging and I’m seriously excited about what the next 12 months will bring to Real Food Girl: Unmodified. To thank all of you for putting up with me for an entire 365 days, I asked you over on my Facebook page if you’d rather have this recipe OR my split pea soup with ham recipe. Hands down this recipe won. But for those of you who asked for the soup, don’t worry. It will be on the blog later this week. I also have some fun surprises for the rest of…

Easy-Bake Coffee Cake
I got this recipe from a co-worker about 13 years ago. It’s a humble recipe that yields a very moist, light and fluffy, yet tasty coffee cake. It’s not fancy by any means but it gets the job done and it doesn’t come from a box loaded with synthetic ingredients or GMOs. This Easy Bake Coffee Cake is for those times when you want a little something special for breakfast, or brunch, or if you’re having some friends over for coffee and tea, this cake fits the bill. It’s a good base recipe to add other ingredients such as dried apples, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, walnuts, just to name a few. I kept this…

Spectacular Blueberry Scones
I would love to live in England. I love the accents, the tea, and scones. Granted I wouldn’t enjoy living under monarchy rule, I would enjoy being so close to all the places I’ve ever wanted to visit. Maybe my desire to live in England is sorta like my desire to have a purple kitchen. The desire is one thing and the reality is something else entirely. Regardless, The Stud Muffin and I enjoy a good scone. There are plenty of nasty ones out there. There is nothing more painful than a bland, dry, crumbly scone. We’ve tried many different scones over the years and I think we’re sort of becoming scone aficionados. …

Yankee Breakfast Hash
We’ve recently moved to the South. South Carolina to be exact. There are numerous differences between the North and the South. There are also numerous differences between MN and SC. Shortly after moving here I shared some of those on my Facebook page. That post is a good example of my sense of humor and my love of tongue in cheek. If you follow my blog, you know that I enjoy witty banter and I love to use humor when sharing my stories and experiences about food. Our family is filled with people who possess great senses of humor. Both my grandparents are very funny, sharp, witty people. My grandfather reminds me a…

Food Hippie Granola
I love granola. My mom used to buy the Heartland brand of granola (cereal) when we were kids. I remember it had very plump raisins and the trick was to hurry up and eat it as quickly as you could before it sucked up all your milk. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a bowl of that granola. I actually thought the company went out of business years ago because boxes of Quaker, Sunbelt and Kellogg’s granola monopolized every cereal shelf in every grocery store where I shopped. Then one day, whilst perusing the ‘take out a second mortgage to shop here’ aisles, I noticed that Heartland was still making granola…
